Deaf Men's Symposium

In 2008, United Deaf Ministries organized a gathering of Deaf leaders, students, and pastors to examine and discuss the issues facing African American Deaf men. With the help of Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, Ron Chisom, co-founder of The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond and the hospitality of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church, Brooklyn NY a gathering of 40 persons convene to participate in this inaugural event. Since that time, much has happened and much has stayed the same. Employment disparity, economic disenfranchisement, poor health information, educational challenges and family life issues continue to limit and frustrate African American Deaf men. United Deaf Ministries remains committed to the effort of enhancing, education and empowering and will begin the process of coordinaing the 2nd symposium.
